It is estimated that 100,000,000 sharks are killed each year. That’s 11,419 every hour. The slaughter is led by finning, a practice whereby the shark is caught, the dorsal fin cut off, and the body returned to the sea, where, unable to swim, the animal drowns. /
The importance of sharks, like all apex predators, cannot be overstated. They maintain healthy ecosystems and keep food webs in balance. Without sharks, the health of the entire ocean is compromised.
