In our society we often elevate certain animals to god-like status whilst others are seen as ugly, scary, disposable, or unlucky. Hand embroidery has been traditionally used to decorate and embellish emblems of power and royalty, and reserved for only the wealthiest and esteemed. So my intention in part was to subvert this and invite the viewer to see these ‘ugly’ animals as the most beautiful, special and powerful beings.
Hi Katie, I absolutely love your work and follow you on Instagram. I was wondering (and hoping) if the God of Crabs original embroidery is available for purchase? Please email me with the price and if it is not available how much it would be to commission a piece similar. Thank you for your time.
