In our society we often elevate certain animals to god-like status whilst others are seen as ugly, scary, disposable, or unlucky. Hand embroidery has been traditionally used to decorate and embellish emblems of power and royalty, and reserved for only the wealthiest and esteemed. So my intention in part was to subvert this and invite the viewer to see these ‘ugly’ animals as the most beautiful, special and powerful beings.
