Art Crush

Welcome to a new definitely-regular-this-time monthly spot where I gush about share with you the work of an artist I particularly love.

For June, the wonderful Mr. Andy Kehoe:

Parting The Darkness, 2010. Oil on wood panel
Dark And Light Radiate The Night, 2011. Oil on wood panel.
Lord Of Ghouls, 2011. Oil and acrylic on wood panel.
A Fading Farewell, 2011. Oil on wood panel.
Visit From The Spirit of Dead Forests, 2009. Oil and acrylic on wood panel.

When I see his pictures, I honestly get a little emotional. My heart does a little skip with joy. It’s just that wonderful, in the fullest sense of the word. I am immediately reminded of the fabulous Princess Mononoke from Studio Ghibli meets Maurice Sendak. But this stuff is really beyond such similies: it stands alone in haunting gorgeousness.

Under the Gaze of the Glorious, 2011. Oil on wood panel.
Roamer of Reverie, 2011. Oil on wood panel.

Forest spirits, animal Gods and curious monsters live here. Death and renewal and joy and comings and goings of friends. He also clearly loves cats, therefore he is awesome x infinity.

Revel in the Wild Joy, 2011. Oil on wood panel.
This one made me cry. It is one of the most beautiful paintings I’ve ever seen.
Onward Again my Friend, 2010. Oil on wood panel.

Of his work he says : “Paintings best enjoyed with smile on face and bourbon in non-mouse hand. When possible, fill room with the smell of burnt gun powder and bacon. At least four gas lanterns recommended for lighting. Legs can either be crossed or uncrossed. Remove Shoes.”

On the Banks of Broken Worlds, 2011. Oil on wood panel.

It is a world I would like to escape to.

Immerse yourself in all this wonder at www.andykehoe.net. There is also his Etsy shop, Blog and Facebook page.
